RAIDING FOR CAMPBELL
April 25, 2010
Perhaps the most significant Day 3 QB action was on the trade front, the Raiders trading for one-time Redskins starter Jason Campbell. Campbell was gained with a trade for a 2012 4th rounder. There is no doubt that Campbell represents an upgrade over the current Raiders cast, the major bust of Jamarcus Russell, the gritty backup Bruce Gradkowski, onetime Cleveland starter Charlie Frye and recently added journeyman Rex Grossman. Campbell showed some of his capabilities over the apst few seasons in DC, but a dismal supporting cast, cavalcade of offenses and zero confidence from his bosses led to his eventual departure. For Campbell it is a great scenario, and he is reportedly all fired up and ready for the starting gig. For Oakland they get an upgrade without sacrificing much and allow them to make the most of this draft to get better overall as a team. For Washington, they can move on and recoup some value (better than just cutting him). I look forward to see how Campbell goes with Oakland.
